Alan has lived nearly his entire life in the midlands.  He grew up in Springdale, South Carolina and currently lives in the town of Lexington.  Alan received a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Francis Marion University and a law degree from the University of South Carolina.

Prior to working at Willoughby & Hoefer, Alan worked as an Assistant Solicitor for the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor's office and as an Assistant Attorney General for South Carolina.  He also clerked for the Honorable Marc H. Westbrook.

He has served in the South Carolina National Guard since 1996 and was deployed to Iraq in 2004.  He currently holds the rank of Major.

Alan is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of South Carolina, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
